 UNHCR REPRESENTATIVE TO NIGERIA AND THE ECOWAS PAID A COURTESY VISIT TO THE ECOWAS COURT

Mme Angèle Dikongué-Atangana, the Representative of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, UNHCR, to Nigeria and ECOWAS paid a courtesy visit to the Court on 12th October 2012.

Mme Dikongué underlined the fact that it was her first visit after assuming her functions at the UNHCR in Nigeria. She referred to the existing collaboration her organisation has been enjoying with ECOWAS and promised to enhance and further that collaboration with the Court.

 THE NATIONAL HUMAN RIGHTS COMMISSION OF NIGERIA ( NHCR ) TO PARTNER WITH ECOWAS COURT

A delegation from the National Human Rights Commission of Nigeria, composed of nine (9) members, Headed by its Executive Secretary, Professor Bem Angwe, paid a courtesy visit to the Court on 12th October 2012.

Professor Angwe who assumed duty in the Commission in January of this year described the visit as the beginning of a partnership with the Community Court of Justice in the areas of promotion and protection of Human Rights in Nigeria.

 LEGAL YEAR: ECOWAS COURT ADVOCATES EFFECTIVE IMPLEMENTATION OF COMMUNITY LAW

The Community Court of Justice, ECOWAS held its 2012-2013 legal year ceremony on the 27th of September, 2012 at the Seat of the Court in Abuja, Nigeria. The ceremony afforded the Court, the opportunity to inform stakeholders on its judicial activities and its programme for the new legal year.

The new legal year was declared open by the Honourable President of the Community Court of Justice, Hon. Awa Nana Daboya who also unveiled the theme for the new year

 ECOWAS AND ICTR SHARE EXPERIENCES

A delegation from ICTR, in Arusha, Tanzania recently paid a working visit to the Seat of the Court of Justice, ECOWAS in Abuja, Nigeria from the 24th to the 28th of September, 2012. The consultants - Mr. Constant Hometowu, Lawyer and head of judicial unit of the Tribunal and Mr. Jonas Mutwaza, Librarian and head of the ICTR law library - shared experiences and best practices of the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda (ICTR) with the Community Court of Justice, ECOWAS, with a view to improving the operation of the registry, and research, documentation and communication departments of the Court.
