COMMUNITY COURT FIXES JUDGEMENT IN CASE FILED BY NIGERIAN ALLEGING HUMAN RIGHTS VIOLATION AGAINST GHANA OVER DEATH OF SON

Judgment has been fixed for 19th May 2016 by the Community Court of Justice, ECOWAS in a case filed by a Nigerian alleging human rights violations against the Government of Ghana over the death of the son in a swimming incident in October 2013.

COURT PRESIDENT CALLS FOR THE INTEGRATION OF JUDICIAL AND LEGAL SYSTEMS OF ECOWAS MEMBER STATES

ECOWAS Member States have been challenged to work for the integration of the region’s legal and judicial systems in order to create a common legal environment that improves access to justice for the citizens, promotes the defence of their human rights and contributes to the strengthening the region’s burgeoning democracy.

WEST AFRICAN JURISTS ADOPT CONSTITUTION FOR THEIR ASSOCIATION

Jurists from West Africa on Friday 15th April 2016 adopted the constitution for the West African Jurists Association (WAJA) as a platform for judges and lawyers from the region to further contribute towards the consolidation of democracy, the rule of law and respect for human rights in West Africa.

INAUGURAL MEETING OF WEST AFRICAN JURISTS OPENS IN ABIDJAN

A senior official of the supreme court of Cote d’Ivoire has welcomed the creation of a West African Jurists Association as a veritable tool for building synergies among judges and lawyers in the region towards the integration of judicial systems and the protection of the human rights of the citizens of the region.

ECOWAS COURT HOLDS MEDIA SENSITIZATION PROGRAMME IN SENEGAL


A delegation from the Community Court of Justice, ECOWAS was in Dakar, Senegal for a week-long sensitisation campaign between 21st and 25th March 2016 during which it held a press conference and an exhibition of various texts of the Court.
