ECOWAS COURT BEGINS HEARING IN A CASE CHALLENGING THE DEATH ROW PROVISIONS IN NIGERIA’S STATUTE BOOKS


The ECOWAS Community Court of Justice on Tuesday, 19th January 2016 adjourned until 17th February 2016 hearing in a case brought by a prisoner on death row challenging the provisions for mandatory death sentence in Nigeria’s statute books.

ECOWAS COURT DELIVERS JUDGMENT ON ALLEGED EXTRA-JUDICIAL KILLINGS OF FIVE NIGERIANS


The Community Court of Justice, ECOWAS has ordered the government of the Federal Republic of Nigeria to conduct ‘appropriate inquiries’ into the disappearance of five Nigerians on 13th October 2010 after they were taken into police custody in Benin, Edo State, Nigeria.

ECOWAS COURT DISMISSES CASE BY TWO LIBERIANS OVER THEIR CONVICTION FOR MURDER


The ECOWAS Community Court on Monday, 30th November 2015 dismissed a suit brought by two Liberians contesting the decision of a circuit court in Monrovia, Liberia which sentenced them to death by hanging for the murder of their ward, one Ms Meideh Togba.

COMMUNITY COURT AWARDS 40 MILLION CFA IN DAMAGES AGAINST GOVERNMENT OF TOGO FOR HUMAN RIGHTS VIOLATIONS


The ECOWAS Community Court of Justice on Tuesday, 6th October 2015 ordered the Government of Togo to pay 35 million CFA in damages for the  ‘arbitrary arrest and detention’ of Mr Djelou Agbelengo Kodjovi, a lawyer who was arrested and detained for two weeks by the country’s judicial police over allegations of forgery.
