ECOWAS COURT DELEGATION IN BANJUL FOR TRAINING OF LEGAL AND JUDICIAL STAKEHOLDERS
A delegation of the ECOWAS Community Court of Justice led by Honorable Keikura Bangoura, a judge of the Court, arrived The Gambia on Tuesday, 1st October 2019 for a three day training of legal and judicial stakeholders as part of the Court’s sensitization and capacity building programme in Member States.
The training, which will also be attended by legal practitioners, law lecturers and law students, is intended to acquaint the participants with ECOWAS Community Law, the organization and functioning of the ECOWAS Court, its jurisdiction, Rules of Procedure and jurisprudence.
The programme will also facilitate the establishment of relationships and cooperation between the Court and judiciary of The Gambia in order to build synergy that is useful for the realization of their mandates and the delivery of justice.
During the programme, the delegation is expected to pay courtesy calls on the Attorney General and Minister of Justice well as His Excellency, President Adama Barrow of The Gambia.
Also on the delegation are the Chief Registrar of the Court, Mr. Tony Anene-Maidoh and other staff who will make presentations during the interactive training.
Presentations during the seminar will relate to the Jurisdiction of the Court, the Practice and Procedure before, an overview of the jurisprudence of the Court, access to the Court, judgments of the Court and challenges and prospects of Court.
