SPEAKER OF ECOWAS PARLIAMENT HAILS THE ROLE OF THE REGIONAL COURT IN ECOWAS INGTEGRATION

The Speaker of the ECOWAS Parliament, Mr. Moustapha Cissé Lo on Wednesday, 9th October 2019 visited the ECOWAS Community Court of Justice during which he held discussions with the President and the Vice President of the Court.

Their discussions centred on issues beneficial to both institutions, particularly how they can collaborate to build synergy in fostering the realisation of their mandates in furtherance of the region’s integration.

The speaker used the opportunity to commend the Court for its role in the promotion of respect for human rights in the region describing justice as the “pillar of integration.”

He emphasized the vital role of both institutions within the Community, recognizing the importance of justice in the process of developing economic and political groupings.

Moreover, he stressed the important role of justice within the framework of the ECOWAS vision 2020 designed to transform the Community from that of States to that of the People so that they can own the regional integration project.

He also alluded to the forthcoming five-day international conference being hosted by the Court in Accra from 21st October 2019 and promised the support of the regional Parliament to ensure its success.

The Speaker met with President Edward Amoako Asante and Vice President Gberi-be Ouattara.
